As for my work, doing hair has always been rewarding.
From June of 1964 until August 1965, I worked in a new beauty shop to learn
how to run a start-up salon. Then we opened up Style Art Coiffures near
the border of Sunnyvale and Santa Clara. It was quite a success; so, we
opened a second shop, Harem Hair Fashions in 1968. Since 1971, I have rented
a station in several salons in the same area. The places were Beauty and
the Beast, The Hair and I, Lovely Lady, and Soon’s. I still enjoy my work
two days a week. Many of my customers have been coming weekly for thirty
years.
By the time I was fourteen, my height was 5’9"
and I then dreamed of becoming a model. After my divorce in 1971, I decided
to attend Lorraine’s School of Modeling in Los Altos. While still doing
hair for five days a week, I also did a few photo shoots, shows, and lunchtime
modeling. Spring 1973, I went to a show in New York and won first place
in my category. Eileen Ford (famous New York model agency) said, "Too bad
you’re so old." I quit modeling because I was almost twenty-eight, which
was considered too old to start a modeling career.
In late August of 1972, I met George T. Willis
while getting an estimate on my damaged car at his body shop. We hit it
off pretty well from the start. In April of 1974, we decided to start a
life together. I left my apartment and moved into his. George had been
married two times. He had an adopted son, Tom, and a biological son, Mark,
from his first marriage. We bought our home in 1976. Soon after, his eleven-year-old
son, Mark, moved in with us.
